Police in Gajipur’s Kaliganj have solved the murder case of farmer Monir Molla (55). The seemingly mysterious killing stemmed from long-standing personal disputes, misunderstandings, and a complicated relationship involving women, ultimately resulting in bloodshed. Law enforcement claims to have uncovered the mystery within 72 hours.

During a press briefing on Tuesday (December 9), Police Superintendent Md. Sharif Uddin stated that on December 6 around 4:30 pm, Monir Molla was heading to a nearby tea shop. By 7:30 pm, his body was found in a field near the Forest Beat Office in Sector 24, Purbachal City. He was brutally hacked in both legs with a sharp weapon.

Police prepared a report at the Ulukhola Police Camp and sent the body to the morgue. Though the case was initially against unidentified assailants, the investigation by a special DB team led by Additional Police Superintendent (DB) Md. Aminul Islam quickly identified the primary suspect.

The investigation revealed that Monir Molla and Bedan Mridha were childhood friends. The murder was driven by a personal vendetta stemming from disputes over women and long-standing misunderstandings. Bedan Mridha was arrested on December 8 from his home in Tekpara, Joydebpur, and in a 164-statement in court, admitted to the crime citing personal enmity.

The joint investigation by the district DB and police is ongoing to determine if others were involved. Present at the press briefing were Additional Police Superintendents Md. Abu Khayer, Khandakar Ashfaquzzaman, and Md. Aminul Islam, along with senior district police officials.
