A fugitive accused in sabotage cases has been arrested by police during the ongoing Devilhunt Phase-2 operation in Chhatak Upazila, Sunamganj. The arrested individual is reportedly a leader of the Awami League, whose activities are banned.
On Thursday night, January 1, police arrested Wasim Uddin (36), president of Ward No. 3 of Charmahal Union Awami League, from his residence. He is a resident of Garuchara village of Charmahal Union and the son of Lal Mia.
According to police sources, Wasim Uddin faced multiple charges, including sabotage, and had been a fugitive for a long time. Acting on a confidential tip, police conducted a raid at his house and arrested him.
After his arrest, he was produced in Sunamganj court on Friday afternoon in connection with a sabotage case.
OC of Chhatak Police Station, Mizanur Rahman, stated that special operations under Devilhunt are being regularly conducted to maintain law and order and bring criminals under the law. He further noted that such operations will continue in the future to ensure peace and security in the area.
