Worker tortured after being hung in Kamalnagar, video goes viral

A horrific allegation of torture has emerged in Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur, where a worker was reportedly confined and brutally tortured over unpaid wages and refusal to go to an brick kiln for work.

A video of the incident has spread on social media, causing strong reactions in the area.

The incident took place on Friday (April 10) in Chungargora area of Torabganj Union in the upazila. The victim is Abul Kalam Kalu, who lives near Badamtali Bazar in Charbosh area. The accused, Ismail Majhi, is also a resident of the same upazila and is involved in brick kiln-related work.

According to local sources, Kalu had taken some advance money from Ismail in exchange for working at a brick kiln. Later, when he did not join work on time, he was forcibly taken and locked in an isolated room.

There, he was tied up and hung while severe physical torture was carried out on him.

The viral video shows the victim screaming in extreme pain while being beaten by the accused. After the video spread, widespread anger erupted among locals.

Police from Kamalnagar police station later became active and rescued Kalu from the spot and admitted him to hospital. He is currently under treatment.

Kamalnagar police station OC Faridul Alam said that police took immediate action after learning about the incident. The victim was rescued and medical treatment ensured, and operations are underway to arrest the accused. He added that everyone is equal in the eyes of law and no one will be spared if found guilty.

Local residents and civil society members have strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict punishment for the accused.
