The number of child patients with measles-like symptoms has increased again at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. In the last 24 hours, 27 new children have been admitted to the hospital’s measles isolation ward.
According to hospital authorities, a total of 77 children are currently undergoing treatment in that ward. The new admissions occurred between 8:00 AM Friday and 8:00 AM Saturday.
Since March 17 of this year, the total number of children admitted with measles symptoms has reached 371. Among them, 284 children have recovered and returned home after treatment. During the same period, the death toll has reached 10. In the last 24 hours alone, 22 children recovered and were discharged.
Hospital sources said that cases of children showing measles symptoms began to appear gradually from February this year. However, from mid-March, the number of infected patients increased significantly. To manage the situation, a separate 64-bed isolation ward has been opened, where three medical teams are providing treatment.
The district civil surgeon’s office said that 197 samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing so far. Among them, 74 cases have been confirmed as measles infections.
Assistant Director (Administration) of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Mohammad Mainuddin Khan, said that although 27 new children were admitted in the last 24 hours, no deaths were reported during this period.
Doctors have said that monitoring and treatment activities have been intensified to control the situation, and parents have been advised to remain cautious.
