Jamaat alleges irregularities in Bogura–6 and Sherpur–3 by-elections

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has raised allegations of irregularities in the by-elections held last Thursday in the Bogura–6 and Sherpur–3 constituencies. Party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar claimed that the elections lacked transparency and that there were attempts to manipulate the results through influence.

He made these remarks at a pre-protest rally held after Juma prayers on Friday at the north gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka. The rally was organized jointly by Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units of Jamaat.

Mia Golam Parwar said that the recent by-election experience once again proves that no election under a party government can be fair. According to him, similar to past controversial elections, irregularities were observed this time as well, which is concerning for the democratic process.

He further alleged that incidents of irregularities during the election were circulated on social media, creating a lack of trust in the electoral system. Based on these incidents, he demanded cancellation of the results in both constituencies and called for re-election.

The Jamaat leader said that those involved in violence and irregularities during the election should be identified and brought under the law quickly. He also urged the Election Commission to consider the situation and cancel the results of Bogura–6 and Sherpur–3.

While commenting on the political situation, he added that the ongoing crisis should have been resolved through a political process, and there is still time for dialogue among concerned parties.

Leaders of Jamaat’s metropolitan units also spoke at the rally, demanding reforms in the electoral system and ensuring fair elections.

No immediate response was available from the Election Commission or other political parties regarding these allegations.
