The membership, or Rukniyat, of Md. Monirul Islam, Nayeb-e-Ameer (2) of the Kamarkhand upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami in Sirajganj, has been cancelled following a fine imposed by a mobile court over allegations of stockpiling fertilizer.

Kamarkhand upazila Jamaat Ameer Md. Yusuf Ali confirmed the matter on Sunday (October 4) afternoon. He said Monirul Islam’s Rukniyat had been cancelled following a central decision after evidence was found of his involvement in activities contrary to the party’s ideology and discipline.

According to party sources, a mobile court conducted a raid on Thursday night at Monirul Islam’s residence in the Chhoto Dhopakandi area of Bhadra Ghat Union in Kamarkhand upazila. During the operation, 18 sacks of urea fertilizer were seized. He was subsequently fined Tk 25,000 on allegations of stockpiling fertilizer.

The operation was conducted by Kamarkhand Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun.

Upazila Jamaat Ameer Md. Yusuf Ali said a decision had been taken at the central level to cancel Monirul Islam’s membership after evidence was found linking him to activities contrary to the party’s ideology.

However, Monirul Islam gave a different account regarding the allegations and the party’s decision. He claimed that he had been deliberately framed. He also said that he learned about the cancellation of his membership through a mobile phone.

According to Monirul Islam, he has not yet received any written letter from the party regarding the decision.

The mobile court’s fine over the fertilizer stockpiling incident and the subsequent cancellation of the party membership have sparked discussion in the local political arena.
