To facilitate travel for people returning home during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has announced one additional public holiday. As a result, government employees will enjoy seven consecutive days off from March 17 to March 23.
This decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday (March 5) at the Secretariat, presided over by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman. Based on a proposal from the Ministry of Public Administration, the executive order declares March 18 (Wednesday) as an additional public holiday.
After the meeting, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Bobby Hajjaj, told journalists that by giving March 18 as an extra holiday following the pre-scheduled Shab-e-Qadr holiday on March 17, combining Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, government offices and autonomous institutions will remain closed for seven continuous days.
Earlier, the Ministry of Public Administration sent a proposal recommending March 18 as a holiday through an executive order, which was approved by the Cabinet. The government hopes that this long holiday will make travel during Eid more comfortable and allow employees to spend more time with their families.
