Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin views organizing a free, fair, and credible election for the country as the ultimate commitment of his life. On Tuesday morning, at the Election Commission in Agargaon, he expressed this firm pledge during a dialogue with election experts.
The CEC stated that taking responsibility for conducting elections under a special type of government at such a critical time is his last opportunity in life to serve the nation. However, he also emphasized that this noble task cannot be accomplished by the commission alone; cooperation from all levels of society is essential.
To ensure transparency and credibility in the election process, the commission has already conducted continuous dialogues with civil society members, journalists, and field-level officials, he noted. Highlighting the importance of field officials’ experience, he said, “Field officers know where fraud occurs and where weaknesses lie. Their experience is invaluable for us.”
Pointing out significant achievements since taking office, he mentioned that the commission has already removed 2.1 million deceased voters from the list and added 4.5 million eligible voters. Special initiatives have been taken to increase women’s participation, resulting in a significant rise in the number of female voters. In addition, postal voting has been made available for expatriate citizens and election-related officials.
Earlier, on Monday, the Election Commission held dialogues with senior journalists from print and electronic media. During these meetings, journalists provided important suggestions on law and order, candidate affidavits, observer organizations, and election campaigning.
Reiterating his commitment, CEC Nasir Uddin said, “We want the upcoming election not only to be free and fair but also to be a symbol of public trust. This is our ultimate and highest pledge.”
