“Elections through PR system are the path to just democracy” — Charmonai Pir

Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and the Charmonai Pir, has said that a favorable environment has now been created for the rise of Islamic political forces in the country. He stated, “This is the best time to advance politics based on Islamic values. Therefore, holding elections through the Proportional Representation (PR) system is essential.”

He made these remarks while delivering the keynote speech as the chief guest at the anniversary rally of the Islamic Workers Movement held at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

The Charmonai Pir added that under the current majority-based voting system, the true opinion of the people is not reflected in Parliament. This disrupts the balance of power and increases inequality in politics. He said, “The PR system will ensure accurate evaluation of votes. Smaller political parties must also be given the opportunity to be represented in national politics; only then can a stable democracy be established.”

He further emphasized, “We want to build a state where there is a fair relationship between workers and owners, and no one suffers from hunger. Implementing Islamic labor principles to protect workers’ rights is now a necessity of the time.”

At the event, Senior Naib-e-Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, said, “There is no alternative to Islamic principles for establishing a worker-friendly state. Only the Islamic movement can build a just society.”

Also present at the rally were Presidium members Ashraf Ali Akn and Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary General Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmad, Senior Joint Secretary Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, and Secretary General of Islamic Workers Movement K.M. Billal Hossain.

The leaders pledged that Islami Andolan Bangladesh will continue to play a proactive role in implementing the demands and rights of workers.
