A defamation lawsuit has been filed against National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Sarjis Alam for spreading false information and propaganda against the BNP regarding the brutal murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin. The case was filed on Tuesday at the Gazipur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court by Tanvir Siraj, president of the Basan Thana BNP.

Siddiqul Rahman, a lawyer at the Gazipur Judge Court, said the court accepted the case and instructed the police’s Detective Branch (CID) to investigate.

Plaintiff Tanvir Siraj stated, “There is a criminal group behind journalist Tuhin’s murder. However, NCP leader Sarjis Alam, without verifying facts, began implicating BNP in this murder on Facebook, which has damaged the party’s reputation. The Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner has already uncovered the mystery of the murder and declared that no political connection has been found. Therefore, I filed this case under the party’s direction, seeking justice.”

Earlier, on August 7 at 9:55 pm, Sarjis Alam wrote on his verified Facebook account: “In Gazipur, journalist Anwar was attacked with bricks for protesting reports on a BNP leader’s extortion, and later journalist Tuhin was brutally attacked and killed at a tea stall in Chourasta, Gazipur.” He later edited his post, replacing the word “extortionist” with “robber.”

The report also mentions that the initial compensation claim by plaintiff Tanvir Siraj was 1 billion taka, but after consulting with lawyers, he amended the claim to refer to “irreparable” damage instead. This information has been corrected.

Although an intelligence investigation has begun, sources say no political motive has been found behind the murder.
