The rapid adoption of new AI technologies is increasing cybersecurity risks, caution cybersecurity firm Wiz’s Chief Technologist Amy Lutwak. She said, “Cybersecurity is essentially a mental game; new technology means new opportunities for attackers.”
According to Lutwak, AI is accelerating coding and “vibe coding,” but this speed often comes at the expense of security. As a result, vulnerabilities are emerging in authentication and user identity verification. She added, “We’ve seen attackers using AI too, attempting system breaches through prompts or automated agents.”
She cited the Drift startup chatbot attack as an example, where attackers accessed customers’ Salesforce data and conducted cyberattacks within the system. AI is also being used to carry out “supply chain attacks,” where vulnerabilities in third-party software allow attackers to access large companies’ data.
Lutwak advised startups and enterprises, “From day one, focus on cybersecurity and compliance. Even small organizations must have a CISO. Ensure secure architecture and data protection before writing code.”
She emphasized, “There are opportunities for new types of cyberattacks across all sectors. This is also a moment for startups to innovate in security solutions.”
