Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) position on sending the national team to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup has sparked nationwide discussion and controversy. In this context, former national captain Tamim Iqbal expressed his views at a recent event, saying decisions should be made considering Bangladesh’s position, reputation, and long-term interests in world cricket rather than emotions.
A photo of Tamim’s remarks was shared on social media by BCB director and finance committee chairman M. Nazmul Islam, who made derogatory comments about the former captain. Although the post was later deleted, it had already gone viral, triggering widespread reactions.
Several current and former national players strongly protested the director’s statement. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam called the comments “indecent and unacceptable,” demanding a public apology and accountability. Former Test captain Mominul Haque said disrespecting a senior and experienced cricketer like Tamim contradicts responsible conduct. Pacer Taskin Ahmed also criticized the statement, calling it harmful to cricket.
Cricketers’ organization, Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), lodged an official protest with BCB, stating that the remarks insulted Tamim and the entire cricketing community, demanding a public apology and accountability from the concerned BCB official.
