Clash Between CU Students and Villagers: Over 500 Injured, VC Announces 10 Emergency Measures

Chittagong University, 1 September 2025 – A minor dispute escalated into a severe clash between students of Chittagong University (CU) and local villagers, leaving over 500 students injured. Three students are reportedly in critical condition, fighting for their lives. Students blame the university administration’s negligence as the primary cause of the incident.

In response, the university administration held an emergency press conference at the Vice-Chancellor’s office at 6:00 PM on Monday, announcing 10 urgent decisions to ensure student safety and restore order.

Key Decisions Include:

1. The university will bear all medical expenses for injured students.
   
   

2. A committee of five faculty members will monitor the medical care of students.
   
   

3. Request the government to establish a model police station adjacent to the university.
   
   

4. Set up a police box at the railway crossing area.
   
   

5. File cases against those involved in the clash by Sunday.
   
   

6. Form a committee to investigate the incident.
   
   

7. Hold an emergency syndicate meeting to review the situation and decide on further actions.
   
   

8. Establish a committee to coordinate with homeowners near Gate No. 2 in the Jobra area.
   
   

9. Request not to withdraw the joint force strike team to ensure student safety.
   
   

10. Launch a hotline service to provide continuous support for students.
    
    

Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), stated that these measures were adopted during a meeting of the Harmony Committee formed with representatives from the university administration, law enforcement, local officials, student representatives, and student organizations at 3:00 PM the previous day.

The clash initially erupted as a scuffle between a guard and student Safia Khatun, which quickly escalated into a confrontation involving students and villagers. The incident turned violent with brick-throwing and chase sequences across the area.
