Mymensingh, Bangladesh, 2 September 2025 – Following a day-long railway blockade, students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have escalated their protest by locking the campus bank and administrative offices to press for their six-point demands.
After 1:00 PM on Tuesday, the protesting students first locked the branch of Pubali Bank located beside the Student-Teacher Center. They then proceeded to lock the new administrative building and the office of the Treasurer, allowing officials to leave the premises.
The students announced, “If our six-point demands are not met, the university will face a lockdown and blackout. All classes, examinations, and banking-financial transactions on campus will be suspended.”
The six-point demands of the students are:
Withdrawal of Hall Eviction Orders – Any illegal directives to vacate halls must be revoked.
Continuity of Facilities – Water, electricity, and gas services in halls must remain uninterrupted.
Resignation of the Proctorial Body – The proctorial body must resign within 24 hours for its inaction regarding attacks by external assailants on students.
Action Against External Attackers and Threats – Teachers and outsiders involved in library and facility vandalism, as well as attacks on students, must be punished.
Public Apology from the Vice-Chancellor – The Vice-Chancellor must issue a public apology for the assaults on students.
Demand for Single Combined Degree – Following a month-long protest, students demand the immediate issuance of a single combined degree; three separate degrees are unacceptable.
It is noted that on Sunday night, students from the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science protesting for a combined degree were attacked by external assailants. The university was subsequently closed indefinitely, and students were instructed to vacate the residential halls. Despite this, students have continued their protest to press their demands.
