In Chandina, Comilla, a seven-year-old child was allegedly tied up and sexually assaulted. Police have arrested the accused youth, Tushar Ahmed. The victimized child is currently receiving treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The incident occurred on Friday, 26 December, in Barkait village. According to the child’s family, Tushar’s grandmother lured the child to their home under the pretext of picking delayed fruits from a tree. After finishing the task, Tushar allegedly took the child inside the house, tied her hands, legs, and mouth, and subjected her to brutal sexual assault. The child was later rescued in a bloodied state and initially admitted to Chandina Hospital and subsequently transferred to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
It has been alleged that some local influential figures tried to cover up the incident. The poor rickshaw-puller father of the child was reportedly offered money and threatened to resolve the matter locally. As a result, the incident remained hidden for three days. When the matter became public knowledge on Tuesday, journalists informed the police, who conducted an operation that evening and arrested Tushar.
Chandina Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Atikur Rahman, stated that the police acted swiftly upon learning of the incident, and strict legal action is being pursued against the accused.
