Constable Namazul Islam, who is posted at the Pabna District Police Headquarters Court, has allegedly received threats to his life from Jahangir Alam, the convener of the Taherpur Municipal Volunteer Party. Expressing anger and concern over this matter, Constable Namazul Islam’s wife, Roksana Tamanna, held a press conference.
In the press conference held at her residence on Wednesday (31 December), Roksana Tamanna alleged that there has been a long-standing land dispute between their family and a neighbor, Abul Hossain, from Bagmara village in Rajshahi. Centered around this dispute, Jahangir Alam, son-in-law of Abul Hossain and convener of Taherpur Municipal Volunteer Party, allegedly threatened her husband’s life via mobile phone on 19 December.
She said that a general diary (GD) was filed at the concerned police station on the same day regarding the threat. She also alleged that false and misleading information was spread on social media using Constable Namazul Islam’s name as part of a defamation campaign.
The press conference further revealed that during an altercation regarding these issues, Abul Hossain’s eldest daughter, Aklima Bibi, physically assaulted Roksana Tamanna by pushing her to the ground. Claiming that she is five months pregnant, she said the incident caused her physical and psychological distress. She filed a written complaint at the police station on Tuesday regarding this incident.
However, Jahangir Alam, convener of Taherpur Municipal Volunteer Party, denied the allegations, claiming that the accusations against him are false and that he is being intentionally implicated.
Regarding this matter, Bagmara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Saidul Alam, stated that complaints and GDs have been received regarding the threat to the constable and the assault on his wife. He assured that the matter will be investigated seriously and legal action will be taken.
