Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the caretaker government, inquired about the physical condition of Nurul Haque, president of the Ganadhikar Parishad. On Saturday afternoon, he spoke with Nurul Haque over the phone and learned details about the incident that occurred Friday night.
Abu Hanif, a member of the Ganadhikar Parishad’s higher council, confirmed the phone conversation with the Chief Advisor in a statement sent to the media. Earlier, on Friday night, legal advisor Professor Asif Nazrul and press secretary Shafiqul Alam visited Nurul Haque at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
On Friday evening, Nurul Haque was seriously injured during a clash between leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party (JAPA) and the Ganadhikar Parishad in Kakrail, Dhaka. Eyewitnesses claimed that JAPA members attacked them while they were marching. However, JAPA officials alleged that the Ganadhikar Parishad’s march was the first to initiate aggression.
During the incident, law enforcement used batons, resulting in at least six injuries, including Nurul Haque, who were admitted to Dhaka Medical College. The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) reported that five army personnel were also injured while maintaining public safety.
A high-level medical board has been formed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital to oversee Nurul Haque’s treatment. Hospital director Brigadier General Md. Asaduzzaman stated that Nurul Haque suffered a head injury and a broken nasal bone, which caused excessive bleeding. Currently, his bleeding has stopped, and he has regained consciousness. However, doctors have indicated that he cannot be declared completely out of danger until at least 48 hours of observation have passed.
