PNN | Chattogram Desk: The Chattogram Customs House has launched an initiative to reduce congestion at the Chattogram Port by auctioning off more than 6,000 containers that have been lying unattended for years. This development was discussed in detail during a coordination meeting held on Friday at the port’s conference room.

The meeting was chaired by Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) M. Sakhawat Hossain. Among the key attendees were Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), NBR members, the Commissioner of Chattogram Customs House, as well as representatives from various departments and the Chattogram Port Authority.

According to the meeting, a total of 6,069 containers are planned to be disposed of through public auction. Of these, the inventory process for 5,143 containers has already been completed. The remaining containers will be inventoried by October 2025.

In addition, a total of 5,250 containers are scheduled to be auctioned and fully cleared by June 2026.

Officials believe that this clearance drive will significantly reduce container congestion at the port, streamline import-export operations, and enhance overall port efficiency.
