Brahmanbaria: Jubo League leader sentenced to one year in prison arrested

The arrest took place on Tuesday (17 February) at 8:00 PM during a special operation in a specific area of the district headquarters, led by Nabinagar police with assistance from district police.

Police sources said that Saiful Islam Alam had been in hiding since 5 August following a political change. He is accused in several cases, including one for which he received a one-year prison sentence. Despite the sentence, he had remained on the run for a long period.

Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam of Nabinagar Police Station stated that the police were searching for him based on a court-issued arrest warrant and that they were able to arrest him through information obtained from secret sources. Being a convicted person, he will be presented to the court according to legal procedures.

The news of his arrest quickly spread in the area following the formation of the new government, creating significant reactions in the local political scene. Local sources also noted that the arrest caused concern among members of the relevant political party. The police said that preparations are underway to hand over the arrested person to the court, and legal action is ongoing regarding his other cases.
