PNN News Desk: Cox’s Bazar
Police recovered the bodies of two young individuals from the coastal areas of Lombari and Mitapani Chhara in Teknaf Sadar Union, Cox’s Bazar. The bodies were found on Wednesday at around 9 a.m., after locals reported the discovery.
Police said the bodies were noticed near the marine drive coastal area, and a team led by Teknaf SI Abdus Salam recovered them and brought them to the police station.
Local fisherman Jalal Ahmed told Prothom Alo that he saw several people standing around the bodies on the sand. The bodies did not appear to have washed ashore naturally; he suspects that the victims were killed elsewhere and dumped at the beach.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said that the identities of the deceased could not be confirmed by noon. The bodies are being prepared for autopsy at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
District police spokesperson and Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Biswas stated that preliminary investigation suggests the deceased may be Rohingya. Human trafficking or ransom-related motives could be involved, but no injuries were found on the bodies. The investigation will continue after the autopsy report.
