BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said there is a political party in the country that refrains from speaking against the Awami League in hopes of securing their votes. He made this comment on Friday morning at an event titled “Blueprint for Building the Nation,” held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Farmgate.

The program was organized by BNP on the occasion of Victory Month and was attended by female leaders of various student wings and current and former central leaders of the student body.

Without naming any party, Salahuddin said, “This party claims they supported the Liberation War. Sometimes we wonder—which Liberation War are they talking about? In the future, they might even claim they alone fought the war. But people today are aware. The time for seeking votes using religious sentiment is over.”

Criticizing the past actions of the Awami League, he said, “Those who shot their own citizens from helicopters, who committed massacres regardless of men, women, or children—such history must not be forgotten.”

He also referred to BNP’s recently published “White Paper,” claiming, “So much money has been looted during the Awami League government that two national education budgets or three national health budgets could be funded with it. The amount looted from banks and the financial sector could build 24 Padma Bridges or 14 metro rail systems. The total financial corruption and money laundering add up to around 29 lakh 25 thousand crore taka.”

He described the election schedule announcement as “a positive step toward democratic transition.”
According to him, “To institutionalize democracy, progress in the electoral process is crucial. Yesterday’s schedule announcement is part of that progress.”

He also commented on the differing positions of political parties regarding the election:
“Some say no PR, no election; some say they won’t accept the national election without local government polls first. Others reject holding the referendum and national election on the same day. All of them stand against democracy—they want democracy on their own terms.”
