The absence of the ruling party, which has long dominated politics in Faridpur, has created a new political equation in the district’s four parliamentary constituencies. With the Awami League’s activities largely inactive, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and several smaller Islamic parties have moved to capture the electoral field. Most constituencies now have declared candidates conducting regular public outreach, street meetings, and courtyard gatherings.

Of Faridpur’s four constituencies, BNP has announced candidates in three. However, due to internal disputes, the party has not finalized a candidate in one constituency. In another, a protest has arisen demanding a replacement for the announced candidate. Meanwhile, Jamaat has pre-nominated candidates in all four constituencies and is intensifying preparations at all organizational levels. Additionally, leaders from Khelafat Majlis, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, and National Citizens Party (NCP) are campaigning independently.

Faridpur-1 (Boalmari, Alfadanga, Madhukhali)
BNP has never achieved consecutive successes here, and this time, internal party disputes are a major hurdle. Strong conflicts among central leaders of Krishak Dal—Khandakar Nasirul Islam, Shamsuddin Mia, and Moniruzzaman Mridha—have prevented candidate nomination. Recent committee formation disputes have further complicated the situation.

Jamaat has fielded former Jahangirnagar University lecturer Md. Ilyas Molla, who is consolidating his position with public meetings across three upazilas. Khelafat Majlis’s Mufti Sharafat Hossain, Islami Andolan’s Waliur Rahman, and NCP’s Hasibur Rahman are also campaigning.

Faridpur-2 (Nagar Kanda, Saltha)
This constituency traditionally revolves around the families of the late Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and BNP’s K M Obaidur Rahman. BNP nominated Shama Obaid, daughter of Obaidur Rahman, who has already created a significant local impact. She promises to continue local development and engages in daily public outreach. Jamaat’s Sohrab Hossain and Khelafat Majlis’s Shah Akram Ali are also actively contesting.

Faridpur-3 (Sadar)
BNP has nominated Nayab Yusuf, daughter of the late Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, for this stronghold, but part of the grassroots is unhappy. District BNP convener Syed Modarres Ali publicly demanded a replacement, heightening internal tension. Former MP A K Azad is campaigning as an independent candidate, promising employment generation, law and order improvement, and elimination of extortion if elected. Jamaat, Khelafat Majlis, Islami Andolan, CPB, and NCP have also fielded active candidates here.

Faridpur-4 (Bhanga, Sadarpur, Charbhadrason)
This historically tough constituency for BNP now sees Krishak Dal’s central general secretary Shahidul Islam as the candidate. He is working to unite the party and conduct coordinated campaigns across three upazilas. Jamaat candidate Sarwar Hossain maintains regular contact with voters. Khelafat Majlis, Islami Andolan, and CPB are also active.

With Awami League absent, competition in Faridpur is largely limited to BNP, Jamaat, and Islamic parties. Smaller parties are also attempting to expand their influence. Local political analysts believe managing internal disputes and demonstrating organizational strength on the ground will be the biggest challenges for candidates this election.
