Bhutanese Prime Minister in Dhaka: Lays Wreath and Plants Tree at National Memorial

Bhutanese Prime Minister Shering Tobgay, visiting Dhaka on a two-day state visit, paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar on Saturday. He also planted a tree at the memorial premises, according to the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s office.

On Saturday morning, the Bhutanese government delegation, led by Shering Tobgay, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus welcomed him at the airport.

In the afternoon, Tobgay will hold meetings with Bangladesh’s Foreign and Trade Advisers to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation. At 3:00 p.m., he will participate in a private meeting at the Chief Adviser’s office in Tejgaon, followed by attending an official dinner in the evening.

Foreign Secretary Asad Al-Siam stated that the Prime Minister’s visit is important for further strengthening bilateral ties. The meetings will discuss cooperation in trade, investment, communications, education, agriculture, health, electricity, telecommunications, tourism, culture, youth, and sports.

Following the meetings, three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, which may cover international internet bandwidth, deployment of Bhutanese specialist doctors and health workers, and agricultural collaboration.

At the final stage of the visit, on 23 November, Prime Minister Shering Tobgay will meet President Md. Sahabuddin at Bangabhaban. He will depart Dhaka for Thimphu on the morning of 24 November, with Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain attending the farewell ceremony.
