Tensions between Iran and the United States have once again reached a critical level. Just weeks after hopes emerged for a ceasefire, the United States has launched a new military operation in southern Iran and areas surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, Iran has claimed that it carried out retaliatory attacks targeting US military facilities in the Middle East.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the latest operation began on Tuesday night and continued for nearly seven hours. The operation targeted dozens of military facilities in Iran’s coastal areas and near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US military, fighter jets, drones, and naval weapons were used during the operation.

Alongside the attacks, Washington has once again imposed naval restrictions on Iranian ports and coastal areas. The United States said the move was aimed at controlling Iranian maritime activities and ensuring regional security. However, Tehran has stated that its control over the Strait of Hormuz will not be affected under any circumstances.

Iranian media reported that explosions were heard in several areas along the southern coast. Air defense systems were activated in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, Hengam, Sirik, Bushehr, and other locations. Iranian authorities claimed that both military facilities and some civilian infrastructure were damaged in the attacks.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched drone and missile attacks targeting US military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan in response to the American strikes.

According to the IRGC, attacks were carried out against the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, a military logistics center in Kuwait, and several US air bases. However, Washington has not immediately provided detailed comments regarding these claims.

Meanwhile, Jordan’s military said its air defense systems intercepted three ballistic missiles fired from Iran.

US President Donald Trump said that operations against Iran would continue. He stated that American attacks would continue until he personally decides to stop them.

In an interview, Trump said Iran’s power plants and other key infrastructure could become potential targets in the future. At the same time, he urged Tehran to return to negotiations.

The renewed tension around the Strait of Hormuz has raised global concerns. The waterway is considered one of the most important routes for international trade, with nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies transported through it.

Following reports of the US naval blockade, global oil prices also increased. International market analysts reported that Brent crude prices rose above $86 per barrel.

Iran has warned that continued pressure on the country could have a major impact on energy exports from the Middle East.

After the recent agreement between the United States and Iran, there had been hopes that tensions would decrease. However, both sides have accused each other of violating the agreement.

The conflict, which began on February 28 following Israeli and US strikes, now risks expanding further. Although the international community has called for diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation, tensions continue to rise due to ongoing military actions by both sides.
