The uncertainty arose after an international media report suggested that by the upcoming Wednesday, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) must confirm whether they will play in India. The report hinted that if Bangladesh opts out, Scotland might replace them.
Following the report, widespread discussions erupted in the country’s cricket community. Later, BCB officially denied the information, stating that ICC has not imposed any specific deadline and that the media report was inaccurate.
BCB Media Committee Chief Amzad Hossain said in a brief statement that ICC representatives would inform the board about all matters, and the final decision would come from ICC. Currently, no date has been set for this notification or any new meeting.
According to internal BCB sources, due to security concerns, the board’s position on the India tour remains unchanged. BCB has requested that, if necessary, matches be held at a neutral venue—preferably in Sri Lanka. This position has been communicated to ICC through both online and direct meetings.
If ICC does not allow a venue change, Bangladesh’s participation could be in jeopardy. The board is also looking toward support from the Pakistan Cricket Board as a last resort. While PCB may support Bangladesh, the extent of their commitment remains uncertain.
Overall, uncertainty still surrounds Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Cricket fans are eagerly awaiting ICC’s final decision.
