Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick will not be allowed to stand on the dugout for the first match of the upcoming Champions League season. The German coach has been handed a three-month suspension along with a €20,000 fine for misconduct regarding referee decisions during the second leg of the semifinal match against Inter Milan. Assistant coach Markus Jorgke has received the same punishment.
In the first leg held on May 1, Barcelona and Inter drew 3-3. In the return leg at San Siro on May 7, Barcelona lost 4-3 and was eliminated from Europe’s prestigious tournament. During the match, Flick showed visible frustration at several referee decisions, which drew UEFA’s attention.
Additionally, Barcelona was fined €7,750 for fireworks and throwing debris onto the pitch during the match.
Meanwhile, Barcelona stars Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal each face a €5,000 fine for violating anti-doping regulations.
Although Barcelona failed to secure their third title this season, the team performed impressively under Flick’s leadership, establishing themselves as one of Europe’s top clubs. However, Flick’s suspension may cause some disruption for the team in the upcoming season.
