Bangladeshi youth killed by BSF gunfire at Daulatpur border, Kushtia

A Bangladeshi youth named Shanto has been killed by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the border area of Daulatpur Upazila, Kushtia. The BGB has stated that his body will be handed over to Bangladeshi authorities through a flag meeting scheduled for December 14.

The deceased, Shanto (24), was a resident of Mohammodpur Dangyerpara village in Ramkrishnapur Union of Daulatpur Upazila. He was the son of Md. Shipon Ali.

According to BGB sources, the incident occurred on the night of December 5 near border pillar 154/3-S in the Ashrayan BOP area of Ramkrishnapur Union. Gunfire was reportedly fired from the Udaynagar camp of the 146 BSF Battalion of India, and locals heard multiple gunshots. Shanto was seriously injured by the gunfire.

After the family reported the incident, the BGB began collecting information from the scene. Later, it was revealed that Shanto was taken into BSF custody from the border area and handed over to Hogalbari Police Station in Murshidabad district, India. He was taken to a hospital there but died while undergoing treatment.

Assistant Director of BGB, Zakirul Islam, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway. On the night of the incident, BSF fired at several individuals in the border area, and Shanto was hit. He later died in BSF custody.

He added that a flag meeting with BSF took place on December 8, and according to the agreement, Shanto’s body will be formally handed over to BGB on December 14, after which legal procedures will be completed before returning the body to the family.

The incident has caused grief and anger among the deceased’s family and local residents. Local representatives have expressed concern over such deadly incidents at the border.
