Bangladesh initially took the lead through a penalty corner goal but could not secure a win in the ongoing Asia Cup hockey tournament. The team participated unexpectedly after Pakistan withdrew at the last moment. However, the start was not smooth for Bangladesh.

In their first match against 12th-ranked Malaysia at the Bihar Sports Hockey Stadium in Rajgir, India, Bangladesh lost 4-1. Bangladesh initially went ahead with a goal from a penalty corner, giving coach Moshiur Rahman’s team an early advantage.

However, Bangladesh could not maintain the lead for long. In the 24th minute of the second quarter, Malaysian forward Ashran Hamsani scored the equalizer, ending the second quarter at 1-1.

In the third quarter, Malaysia’s attack intensified, and Akhimullah scored from a penalty corner in the 35th minute, putting Malaysia ahead 2-1. In the final quarter, Bangladesh conceded two more goals: Mujahir Abdur Rauf in the 48th minute and Saeed from a penalty corner in the 54th minute.

Thus, Bangladesh, despite taking an early lead, suffered a heavy defeat in their first match of the tournament.
