Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s younger brother Shahadat Hossain arrested along with eight Awami League leaders in a DB raid in Dhaka

In a special operation conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Shahadat Hossain, the younger brother of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, has been arrested along with eight leaders of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations.

According to police sources, the arrests were made during simultaneous raids carried out across various areas of the capital on Thursday morning. Police have stated that the arrested individuals were involved in different criminal activities.

Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the DMP, told reporters that the detainees are members of different branches of the ruling party’s organizational structure, and were allegedly engaged in anti-government activities.

An investigation is currently underway, and the police have said that more detailed information will be provided later. The process of producing the arrestees before the court is ongoing.

Political analysts have suggested that this incident may intensify tensions in the political arena, especially given the current volatile political climate, and is being seen as a significant development.
