An attack and vandalism occurred at former President Md. Abdul Hamid’s house in Mithamain, Kishoreganj, on Monday night, according to local sources.
Locals reported that following the verdict announced by the International Criminal Tribunal, a celebratory procession by the local BNP started from Mithamain market heading toward Kamalpur village, where the former President’s house is located. Hundreds of party activists participated. The house had been vacant since August 5.
Midway through the procession, 20–30 members split from the main group and moved toward the house. They broke the main gate, entered, and vandalized windows, doors, furniture, and other belongings. No family members or staff were present during the incident.
Eyewitnesses said a few senior local BNP leaders led the splinter group. While the main procession continued on the road, the rear section unexpectedly changed direction and entered the former President’s house. The sounds of vandalism alarmed nearby residents.
Police arrived at the scene upon receiving news, and later a team from the military also inspected the house and surrounding area. Additional police and military personnel were deployed around the house.
Mithamain police officer-in-charge Alamgir Kabir confirmed the incident, stating: “The house’s doors, windows, cabinets, and some structures were damaged. However, the situation is now calm. No one has been arrested yet, and the investigation is ongoing.”
