A shocking incident occurred at Gaibandha’s Saghata Police Station on Thursday night (July 24) when an unknown individual stabbed an on-duty police officer and attempted to snatch his rifle. The attack took place around 10:30 PM inside the police station premises.
The injured officer, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohsin Ali, was on duty inside the station at the time of the attack.
According to police and local sources, a man suddenly entered the police station compound around 10 PM and stabbed ASI Mohsin Ali in the head and hand. The attacker then attempted to seize the rifle from the wounded officer. When Mohsin Ali screamed for help, nearby police personnel and local residents rushed to the scene. Realizing the situation, the assailant fled and jumped into the pond of the adjacent Saghata Pilot High School.
Due to the pond being covered in thick water hyacinth, the attacker could not be located immediately. Since then, a search operation has been underway involving the fire service, local police, and over a hundred residents to track down the suspect.
Saghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Badsha Alam said, “Initial observations suggest the attacker may be mentally unstable. We are trying to apprehend him. Further details will be shared in due course.”
Injured ASI Mohsin Ali was quickly taken to the hospital for medical treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable.
Following the incident, security has been tightened around the police station, and officers have been instructed to remain on high alert.
