Mojibur Rahman, chairman of the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, has called on the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami to unite and participate in the upcoming February national parliamentary elections to remove uncertainty. He said, “Only seven years ago, the two parties contested elections under the same symbol. If they unite this time as well for the greater national interest, there will be no room for uncertainty.”

He made these remarks while delivering the keynote speech at the AB Workers’ Party delegates’ conference held Friday afternoon at Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club. The conference was presided over by central leader Sheikh Jamal Uddin and conducted by co-editor for labor affairs, Aziza Sultana.

Mojibur Rahman criticized new political parties, saying that their internal conflicts have hindered the country’s progress. He stated, “We too have at times rushed toward elections suddenly. But the AB Party believes that the country must first be strengthened on a solid foundation before political competition begins.”

He further added that although consensus was nearly reached regarding the implementation of the July Charter, uncertainty still remains regarding street-level programs. He believes that if BNP and Jamaat unite, such uncertainty will be removed.

Highlighting the demand for justice against perpetrators of genocide, the AB chairman said, “Those who deprived people of their voting rights and undermined democracy must be brought under the law.”

Emphasizing the role of workers, he urged political parties to temporarily set aside their own slogans and prioritize the people’s demands. According to him, if skilled human resources are developed, the country can be transformed through the efforts of workers.

The conference was also attended by central assistant finance secretary Abu Bakkar Siddique, Abdul Halim Nannu, Ramna Thana convenor Abdul Kader Munshi, and several others.
