Prime Minister’s Political Assistant Md. Rashed Khan has said that a case should also be filed against Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman over allegations of instigating the 2024 massacre.
Rashed Khan made the remarks in a post published on his verified Facebook page on Sunday (October 4).
In the post, Rashed Khan alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman effectively supported the 2024 massacre by describing him as a “hero.” He claimed that one month after the mass uprising, the Jamaat chief had announced a general amnesty for the Awami League.
Rashed Khan questioned whether this also meant taking a position in favor of granting amnesty to the then leadership of the Awami League. He further commented that the position of Jamaat leaders and activists toward Major Akhtaruzzaman could indicate the party’s other political positions in the future.
The Prime Minister’s Political Assistant also criticized Jamaat-e-Islami’s political position in the post. He claimed that because of Jamaat’s role during the Liberation War of 1971, the party was also treating the events of 2024 as insignificant.
Calling for a case to be filed against Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman over allegations of instigating the 2024 massacre, Rashed Khan said it would also be a question how Jamaat would respond to such a case. He also questioned whether joining Jamaat-e-Islami provides anyone with an opportunity to escape accountability for previous allegations or crimes.
At the end of his post, Rashed Khan asked Jamaat-e-Islami whether the party really wants to become a place for rehabilitating people accused of crimes.
However, these statements were made by Rashed Khan in a personal social media post. No response from the concerned party regarding the allegations raised by him was found in the post.
