In Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur, a head-on collision between a bus and a battery-operated e-rickshaw claimed the lives of four people, including three members of the same family. The tragic accident occurred at around 12:15 PM on Friday, December 5, at the Kaidubi railway crossing in the upazila. Four others, including a child, were injured in the incident.
According to local sources, a passenger bus operated by New Modern Transport, coming from Kuakata, collided head-on with the e-rickshaw approaching from the opposite direction at the railway crossing. The e-rickshaw was completely destroyed in the collision, and four of its passengers died on the spot.
The deceased include Nurunnahar Begum (55), wife of Abdur Rahman from Purbo Sadar village, their daughter Rimu Begum (35), and their three-year-old grandson Rayhan. An unidentified elderly man (65) was also killed, and police are working to identify him.
Local residents, highway police, and fire service personnel quickly reached the scene to rescue the injured, who were first taken to Bhanga Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to deteriorating conditions.
Bhanga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Helal Uddin said, “The bus involved has been detained. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the police station. One victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed, and work is ongoing to establish it. After legal procedures, the bodies will be handed over to their families.”
