24 Teenage Gang Members Arrested in Joint Operation by DB, RAB, and Police in Cumilla

In a joint operation by the Detective Branch (DB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and police, 24 members of a teenage gang were arrested in Cumilla. The operation was conducted in various parts of the city early Monday morning (October 20).

Earlier, on Sunday afternoon (October 19), a clash broke out between two rival groups near Cumilla Victoria College over establishing dominance in the area. Five people were injured in the incident. Following the clash, police launched a special drive and arrested a total of 24 individuals, including gang leaders Sifat (20) and Abrar (19). During the operation, authorities recovered machetes, sickles, knives, and other locally made weapons from their possession.

Among those arrested were— Almgir Jisan (17), Tanvirul Islam Abhi (18), Ariful Islam Naim (18), Din Islam (22), Rohan Talukder (21), Aliful Haque Jihad (18), Abdullah Al Siam (17), Tanvin Sifat (17), Arafat Hossain (17), Nure Tahsin (17), Soad Tahsan Tousin (18), Shafin Newaz Abrar (17), Touhidul Islam Mahim (18), Safayet Islam (21), Ashraful Jaman Sifat (18), Zahedul Alam Raihan (18), and Mostafiz (18), among others.

Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahinul Islam said that under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, the DB, RAB, and police jointly carried out the operation from Sunday night (October 19) to Monday morning (October 20). He added that drives to maintain law and order in the city will continue and that no criminal groups will be spared.

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed stated, “Teenage gangs are a cancer in society. They will not be allowed to operate in the city. Everyone involved in gang culture will be brought under the law.”
