The group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been finalized. Iraq secured its place through a dramatic play-off win, completing the lineup of 48 teams.
The tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will be the largest World Cup in history. Teams have been divided into 12 groups. The qualifiers and play-offs produced some unexpected results. Bosnia, Czech Republic, Turkey, and Sweden secured places through European play-offs. From the inter-confederation play-offs, Congo and Iraq qualified. Returning to the World Cup after a long hiatus, these teams have already attracted fan attention.
New entries include Curaçao, Jordan, Cape Verde, and Uzbekistan, adding diversity to the competition. Group draws promise several exciting matches. Current runners-up France are grouped with Senegal, Norway, and Iraq. Portugal faces Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia. Defending champions Argentina are in Group J with Algeria, Austria, and Jordan. Brazil is in a group with Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti. Hosts Mexico, Canada, and the United States will compete in Groups A, B, and D, respectively. Group F has Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia; Group G has Belgium, Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand; Group H features Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde; and Group L sees England with Croatia, Ghana, and Panama.
