Hasnat Abdullah, a key coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP), questioned the use of the ‘anti-independence’ label on differing opinions regarding constitutional reform. He cautioned that such labeling could be disrespectful and politically sensitive.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday during the discussion of a postponed proposal to convene the Constitutional Reform Council under the July National Ordinance, he stressed the need to advance reforms while respecting public opinion. Abdullah noted that some political parties selectively accept or reject parts of the Constitution, creating a dual standard. He emphasized that discussions on constitutional reform must reflect the country’s political realities and public mandate.
