20 injured, 4 arrested in Brahmanbaria mosque annex clash

A violent clash broke out between two groups over the construction of an annex (Auzukhana) at a mosque in Koshba Upazila, Brahmanbaria. At least 20 people were injured, several of whom are in critical condition. Police have arrested four individuals from the scene.

The incident occurred on Monday (October 20) afternoon in front of Jagannathpur Purba Para Jame Mosque, Kaiyumpur Union of the upazila.

Local sources reported that there had been a long-standing dispute between the two groups regarding the mosque annex construction. On Monday afternoon, one group led by Dulal Mia (60), accompanied by police, stopped the construction work. At this time, Alam Mia (60), Fazlu Mia (55), and Said Mia (65) from the opposing group came to the scene to protest. A verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation between the two sides.

At least 20 people from both groups were injured during the clash. Twelve of the seriously injured were initially taken to Koshba Upazila Health Complex. Later, six of them in critical condition were transferred from Comilla Medical College Hospital to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

OC Ripon Das of Koshba Police Station said that the police acted swiftly and arrested four individuals involved in the clash over the mosque annex construction. The situation is now fully under control, and additional police have been deployed in the area.

The OC added, “Those involved in the incident have been identified, and legal action will be taken against them.”
