Security arrangements surrounding India’s medical entrance examination, NEET-UG, have been significantly tightened. Authorities have announced that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt the transparency and security of the examination process.

The overall preparations for the nationwide examination were recently reviewed during a high-level meeting. Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan discussed the organization and management of the exam in detail. Senior officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and education secretaries from various states also attended the meeting.

Authorities stated that members of the Indian Air Force and paramilitary forces have been assigned to ensure the security of question papers and answer scripts. Comprehensive measures are being implemented to safeguard the transportation and storage of sensitive examination materials.

According to information from the Ministry of Defence, question papers will be prepared and secured under the supervision of the Air Force before being delivered to examination centers within designated timeframes. Additionally, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be responsible for maintaining security during any re-examinations.

A two-tier security system has been introduced for the transportation of question papers. Armed forces personnel are overseeing the movement of documents through airports, helipads, and other transportation facilities.

To prevent paper leaks, question setters and translators have reportedly been placed in separate secure locations under strict surveillance. They will not be allowed access to mobile phones, laptops, or the internet for a specified period to eliminate any risk of information leakage.

The enhanced measures come after allegations of irregularities and question paper leaks emerged following the examination held on May 3. Authorities say the current arrangements are designed to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Analysts believe maintaining transparency in a crucial national examination like NEET remains a major challenge for the government. As a result, authorities have increased both technological monitoring and the involvement of security forces.
