New System Introduced for Monitoring Government Primary School Teachers’ Attendance

A new monitoring system has been introduced across the country to ensure regular attendance of government primary school teachers.

From Monday (June 15), teachers are required to send attendance information within a fixed time every day. Under this system, it has been made mandatory to take photos of attendance registers and send them to designated WhatsApp groups.

Officials from the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) said that attendance and absence data must also be reported to the relevant authorities.

Teachers from nearly four lakh primary schools across the country are being brought under this digital monitoring system. The initiative aims to ensure timely attendance of teachers and improve classroom teaching activities.

Under the new process, data sent from schools will first go to assistant education officers. It will then move to upazila/thana education officers, district primary education officers (DPO), divisional deputy directors (DD), and finally reach the Directorate of Primary Education at the central level.

At the same time, head teachers must also update the information in a designated Google Sheet.

Officials said that the overall attendance situation of schools across the country will be centrally monitored every day within the specified time. This will help quickly identify any absence or irregularity in duty performance.

The initiative has been taken to improve the quality of primary education, maintain continuity in teaching, and reduce absenteeism during working hours.

The directive also states that providing false attendance information, hiding data, or failing to submit information on time may result in departmental action against the concerned head teacher or officials.

Education stakeholders believe that if properly implemented, this new monitoring system will improve teacher attendance and make classroom teaching more disciplined.
