In recent days, a mysterious stream of posts about “Waffle” has been circulating on the social media platform Bluesky, creating excitement and debate among users. The issue started with a satirical post by Jerry Chen, where he mocked certain users for displaying excessive morality online.
Bluesky’s CEO, Jay Graber, supported the post, stating, “This is very real. We will try to fix it. Social media doesn’t have to operate this way.” Later, in response to a question, he briefly wrote, “Waffle!”
Meanwhile, the controversial presence of platform user Jesse Singal had also stirred tensions among users last year. Over eighteen thousand signatures were collected on a Change.org petition demanding that Singal be blocked.
CEO Jay Graber later wrote, “Pressuring moderators to cancel someone never works. And harassing ordinary people doesn’t change their minds either.” He even posted a waffle image himself, trying to lighten the mood around the debate.
Analysts believe this incident highlights ongoing tensions between Bluesky’s management and its users. Graber emphasized that the company does not want to align with any specific political or social group, but instead wants to give users the opportunity to create their own alternatives.
Bluesky’s authorities are also attempting to foster a healthy discussion environment through initiatives such as “accelerated decentralization” and the “Healthy Conversation Project.”
