Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan announced his decision to resign in a press conference at the Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom on Tuesday afternoon (10 February).
He stated, “I am stepping down so that the elected political government can organize the university administration according to its plans.” However, he is not leaving immediately. The resignation letter has not been formally submitted, and he will continue in his role for a few days after the new government assumes office to maintain administrative continuity.
Dr. Khan explained that he made this decision to allow the elected government to restructure the university administration according to their agenda. He expressed hope that the new administration will cooperate fully during the transition.
Earlier, following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024, then Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal resigned on 10 August. Subsequently, on 27 August, the Education Ministry issued a notification appointing Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan as temporary Vice-Chancellor.
This resignation marks the beginning of a new chapter in the university’s administration in the post-election period.
