To halt the Gaza war, U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a new 20-point proposal. During a joint press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump described it as “one of the greatest days in the history of civilization” and claimed that it could bring “lasting peace” to the Middle East.

The plan includes a ceasefire, limited Israeli troop withdrawals, prisoner exchanges, and the establishment of a local technocratic administration in Gaza. The proposed administration would be overseen by an international “Peace Board” composed of the United States and Arab countries, with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair also involved.

The proposal allows for amnesty for Hamas fighters who surrender their weapons and provides the possibility of exile for remaining members. Additionally, it calls for the formation of an international force to ensure Gaza’s security. However, the issue of establishing a Palestinian state is only mentioned as a “future possibility,” without any firm commitment.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has expressed support for the plan, although hardline members of his coalition have already raised objections. Hamas has not yet issued an official response, but a senior leader of the organization indicated that they would reject the plan if it fails to protect the fundamental rights of Palestinians.

While the international community has welcomed the proposal, critics argue that it is primarily a framework for discussion, leaving many critical issues unresolved. This could make implementation challenging.

Just hours before the announcement, Israeli attacks intensified in Gaza City, further complicating the situation. Analysts warn that if the plan fails, the conflict could become even more prolonged.
