US President Donald Trump has taken a strong stance regarding the role of European allies in the Iran war issue. He sharply criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and expressed disappointment.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera on Tuesday (April 14), Trump said Meloni’s reluctance to participate in the war against Iran surprised him. He added that he once considered her a strong leader but has since changed his view.

He accused Meloni of not fully aligning with US and NATO positions and not cooperating sufficiently to curb Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

He also commented on Europe’s immigration crisis, saying it is worsening in many countries.

Following Trump’s remarks, support for Meloni emerged in Italy. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized the importance of unity based on mutual respect.

Opposition leader Elly Schlein described Trump’s comments as “disrespectful.”

Italy has reportedly suspended a defense cooperation agreement with Israel due to current circumstances.

Analysts say the Iran war issue is complicating diplomatic relations among the US, Europe, and the Middle East.
