Government forces in Syria’s eastern Aleppo region have been redeployed. This followed several days of heavy fighting and the withdrawal of some areas by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
State news agency SANA released videos on Monday showing Syrian army soldiers moving to deploy in eastern Aleppo. Military commanders in the region reported, “We have observed the arrival of new armed groups at certain SDF deployment points.” Sources indicate the new alliance includes several fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
However, the SDF has denied these allegations, stating, “No unusual military activity has occurred in the Deir Hafer region of eastern Aleppo. Any groups observed there were primarily local civilians assisting injured individuals in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods.”
At the same time, the Syrian army is conducting security operations in various city areas. Some displaced residents have begun returning to their homes. Reconstruction work has started in the Ashrafiyeh area, although soldiers are still searching for explosives and weapons in Sheikh Maqsoud.
