Protests against the economic crisis and deteriorating living standards are intensifying across Iran. Despite government attempts to control the situation, they have largely failed, leading to the deployment of a large number of security forces.

On Monday night, hundreds of people protested in Abdanan city, Ilam Province. Local video footage shows children participating with their parents and elderly people joining the demonstrations. Helicopters are seen in the sky, but protesters outnumber security personnel.

In Ilam city, the provincial capital, security forces attempted to arrest protesters around Imam Khomeini Hospital. Amnesty International called it a violation of international law, demonstrating the Iranian authorities’ “limits and capabilities in suppressing protests.”

Following recent protests in Malekshahi district, the hospital became a target, and several were killed during demonstrations near military camps. Many injured were taken to hospitals.

Local government media confirmed at least three deaths. Additionally, during clashes with security forces on Tuesday, a police officer was also killed.

In Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, merchants and shopkeepers closed their shops to participate in the protest. They shouted slogans such as “We want freedom” and called the police “humiliating.” A protester said, “Punish me if you want, I am not a troublemaker,” which resonated with supporters.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, “Troublemakers will be made to sit in their place.” Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei stated, “This time we will show no mercy to the troublemakers.”

The protests are not limited to the capital; they have also spread to Lorestan, Kermanshah, Mashhad, Qazvin, Shahrekord, and Hamedan. At least 35 people have died nationwide, according to multiple human rights organizations, although the government has not released official numbers.

Economic conditions have worsened. The price of cooking oil has tripled, making it unaffordable for middle-class families. The Iranian rial has hit a record low of 1.47 million per US dollar.

Two well-known Iranian singers, Homayoun Shajarian and Alireza Ghorbani, have announced the temporary suspension of their professional activities, including planned concerts, in support of protesters. Legendary Iranian footballer Ali Daei has questioned how government officials can sleep peacefully, noting that many are likely non-Iranian because they lack empathy for the people.

Iran’s protests and economic crisis are attracting international attention. Experts warn that government failure and rising prices may prolong the unrest.
