In a World Cup qualifying match, European champions Spain unleashed a goal-fest on host Turkey’s home ground. On Sunday night, Spain secured a 6-0 victory, highlighted by Mikel Merino’s brilliant hat-trick, two goals from Pedri, and a solo effort by Ferran Torres.
From the very beginning, the visitors dominated the match. Spain took the lead in just the sixth minute with a goal from Pedri. In the 22nd minute, Merino doubled the lead and added another goal during first-half stoppage time, giving Spain a three-goal cushion.
Spain continued their dominance after the break. In the 53rd minute, Ferran Torres scored the fourth goal on a quick counter-attack. Just four minutes later, Merino completed his hat-trick with a stunning left-footed strike. Pedri scored again in the 62nd minute to secure Spain’s sixth goal.
Turkey struggled throughout the match, unable to respond to Spain’s quick passing and precise finishing. As a result, they were forced to leave the field defeated by a wide margin.
With this win, Spain tops Group E with six points from two matches. Turkey and Georgia are second with three points each. On the same day, Georgia defeated Bulgaria 3-0.
