Six unidentified bodies of those killed by gunfire during the anti-authoritarian July mass uprising in 2024 were handed over today, Thursday, to Anjuman Mofidul Islam for burial. Shahbagh Police confirmed the matter.
Among the deceased, one was recovered from the Paltan area, three from the jurisdiction of Jatrabari Police Station, and two—including one woman—were recovered from Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital. Although a long time has passed, their identities have not been confirmed. However, DNA profile samples of the bodies have been collected, which will be used to identify missing family members.
Shahbagh Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Khalid Monsur said, as per court orders, the bodies were handed over at 12:30 PM on Thursday through Anjuman Mofidul Islam for burial at Jurain Graveyard.
The event was attended by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner (Crime) Faruq Hossain and Ramna Police Station Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam.
Many victims remain missing following clashes and protests during the July mass uprising across various parts of the country. Their families are given the opportunity to confirm identities by providing DNA samples.
