Dhaka: Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, the Indian cricket team has faced a setback. Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has withdrawn from the Duleep Trophy due to illness. Doctors have advised him to take complete rest, raising concerns about his participation in the Asia Cup.

Gill was supposed to lead North Zone in the Duleep Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had named him as vice-captain of the Asia Cup squad. However, his illness before the tournament has created concern within the Indian camp.

According to a report on the Cricbuzz website, Gill is currently at his home in Chandigarh, and the exact details of his illness have not been disclosed. Both the BCCI and North Zone authorities have confirmed that he will not play in the Duleep Trophy.

Indian team coach Gautam Gambhir stated that a batter in form should not be risked in the Asia Cup. Therefore, North Zone will have to play the Duleep Trophy without him.

The Duleep Trophy will be held from August 29 to September 15, while the Asia Cup will begin on September 9. Gill was only expected to play the first match, but now even that seems unlikely.
