The government is preparing to implement the 9th National Pay Scale from the 2026–27 fiscal year. According to relevant sources, a plan to allocate around 35,000 crore taka in the upcoming national budget for this purpose is in its final stage. Under this new pay structure, MPO-affiliated teachers and employees, along with government employees, are expected to receive significant financial benefits.
Sources from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance say that under the new pay scale, the minimum basic salary of government employees may increase by up to 50 percent. In particular, proposals are being discussed for salary increases of up to 100 percent for employees in the 11th to 20th grades. As a result, the lives of nearly 4.75 lakh MPO-affiliated teachers and employees in the country may experience major changes.
According to the preliminary recommendations of the Pay Commission, the current basic salary of fourth-grade MPO institution principals, which is 50,000 taka, may increase to around 75,000 taka. Similarly, assistant professors in the sixth grade, whose salary is 35,500 taka, may increase to 53,250 taka.
The salaries of seventh-grade vice principals and head teachers, currently 29,000 taka, may increase to 43,500 taka. Lecturers in the ninth grade, currently earning 22,000 taka, may see their salaries increased to 33,000 taka. In addition, assistant teachers with B.Ed qualifications in the tenth grade, currently earning 16,000 taka, may receive up to 24,000 taka.
On the other hand, assistant teachers without B.Ed qualification in the 11th grade currently receive 12,500 taka. If increased by 50 percent, it would rise to 18,750 taka. If a 100 percent increase is implemented, they may receive 25,000 taka.
Furthermore, office assistants, accounts assistants, and computer operators in the 16th grade, currently earning 9,300 taka, may see their salaries increased to 13,950 taka. With a 100 percent increase, it could rise to 18,600 taka.
Lab assistants in the 18th grade, currently earning 8,800 taka, may have their salary increased to 13,200 taka. If doubled, it may reach 17,600 taka.
Employees in the lowest 20th grade, including office assistants, night guards, security staff, cleaners, and Aya workers, currently receive 8,250 taka. Under the new proposal, a 50 percent increase would raise it to 12,375 taka, and a 100 percent increase would raise it to 16,500 taka.
However, the full pay structure is not expected to be implemented all at once; instead, it will be introduced in phases. It is known that from next July, government employees will start receiving half of the new basic salary benefits. In the following fiscal year, the remaining portion will be implemented. After that, in the 2028–29 fiscal year, various allowances and additional benefits will be gradually added.
Regarding this, member secretary of the MPO-affiliated education nationalization demand coalition, Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi, said that since MPO teachers and employees are under the government pay structure, they are expected to be included in the new 9th National Pay Scale.
According to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics, there are currently 26,093 MPO-affiliated educational institutions in the country. Around 478,898 teachers and employees work in these institutions.
The national budget session of parliament is scheduled to begin on June 7. Then, on June 11, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will present the 2026–27 national budget. The allocation and final decision regarding the 9th Pay Scale may become clear on that day.
